- Abstract
- Results of the large scale household survey of approximately 3400 households in Ecuador, Zambia and the Philippines as conducted within the frame of the LaForeT project. An identical, structured questionnaire was applied for household interviews covering socio-demographics, land use, forest use, income activities, and contextual factors as well as other aspects of rural livelihoods. The surveys were conducted in 2017/18 in the Pilippines, in 2017 in Ecuador and in 2018/19 in Zambia. Results of approx 100 households for each of the landscapes are aggregated per landscape as provision of results for single households would violate privacy rights. However, the location of the underlying households is given in the "Households" layer. Visualization of single households in the highest zoom mode is switched off, also in order to protect the privacy of the households. - Data Quality
- In each landscape, face to face interviews were conducted based on a closed and structured questionnaire with approximately 100 households. Most information was coded to ensure comparability and standardized evaluation. Free text fields were transcribed. Interview results were noted on paper but digitized within short time by the interview personnel in the countries. This was done by entering information in an online tool that had been programmed to capture input in a standardized way and that included automated plausibility checks. This procedure enabled to clarify missing infomation in the field immediately after data input. The questionnaire captured information about household socio-demographics, sources of income from land (i.e., crop production, livestock, fishing/aquaculture, forest use), non-farm activities (i.e., salaries, remittances, self-employment), off-farm activities (i.e., working in other people’s farm), changes in land-use and agricultural land-use patches and was harmonized across the interview campaigns in all three countries. Pilot assessments and intercalibration between team members was carried out routinely, team leaders participated in random subsets of the interviews. During data analysis, implausible surveys and households with missing values were removed.
